The Business Report of Northern Nevada profiles youthful

entrepreneurial Rick Halbardier and his wife, Kathy, owners of Tahoe Ridge Winery, Nevada’s only winery. 

Turns out that you can’t grow just any kind of grape in Nevada.  After intense work with Cornell University and the University of Minnesota, the consortium discovered interspecific wine grape varieties hardy to -40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Carson City Hosts First NCET Tech Thursday

NCET held its first Carson City Tech Thursday on December 14.  Hosted by JFG Systems, 60 people from throughout Northern Nevada attended the event.  Ron Weisinger, Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA) , gave an overview of NNDA’s activities, with the remainder of the evening devoted to serious networking.  (See more photos here)

SBA launches New Markets Tax Credit Pilot Loan Program

The U.S. Small Business Administration launched the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Pilot Loan Program to increase lending to small businesses located in  economically distressed communities or “New Markets.” The pilot program will help small businesses by enabling Community Development Entities (CDEs) to combine the benefits of both the U.S. Department of Treasury New Markets Tax Credit Program and the SBAExpress or CommunityExpress 7(a) guaranteed loan programs to provide small businesses located in urban and rural communities greater access to financing and business training.  (More click here for information.)
