Las Vegas ranked as one of "greener" cities in the nation

A recent report by MSN recognizes Las Vegas as being one of the nation’s top ”greener than you think” cities:
“Most of us will have a hard time reframing our mental picture of Las Vegas, but it’s about time to give Sin City another shot at redemption. The town known for its blackjack tables and Elvis impersonators has surprisingly high rates of carpooling and strong ridership on its CAT public transit system. And Nevada is looking at getting as much as 25 percent of its power from renewable geothermal sources. Plus, according to SustainLane, Vegas’ city fleet is 63 percent alternative-fueled vehicles, the highest of any city in the study. Though it suffers from sprawling suburbs and water abuse, Vegas has set itself on a green path. While there are no LEED-certified buildings in Las Vegas, that’s about to change in a big way. MGM Mirage has announced plans to make its $7 billion CityCenter development not just the first LEED building in the state but the largest in the world.”
