Rural Summit Update

The Nevada Rural Development Corporation’s (NRDC) 2007 Rural Summit continued today in Fallon, with nearly 30 speakers and panels, and a dozen exhibitors.

Rick Lattin is the managing partner in Lattin Farms, LLC and a part-time consultant for the Nevada Small Business Development Center in Fallon. He also shares his time as a part-time Business Instructor at Western Nevada Community College.

Ormat Technologies secures seven geothermal leases in Nevada

Ormat Technologies, Inc. recently announced that it has won a bid for inner-top-logo.gifapproximately 68,900 acres of geothermal leases in Nevada, that were auctioned by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for the total amount of approximately $8.2 million.

Dita Bronicki, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ormat Technologies, said, “This auction is an implementation of the new BLM rule which includes a requirement that geothermal resources be offered through a competitive lease process. Our successful bid secures lease agreements for seven new sites in Nevada, which will support our growth plans in the years to come, however, there is no assurance that all of the leases will be found suitable for commercial projects.”

2007 Rural Summit Underway in Fallon

The 2007 Rural Summit is underway in the great community of Fallon, Nevada. The Summit is designed to address the many challenges facing the Silver State including energy, growth, healthcare, leadership, affordable housing and economic development. 

The Summit will address many of these issues and more through their  theme: Developing Nevada’s Future through Leadership. The Summit is presented by the Nevada Rural Development Council. 

cantalopeThe Rural Summit features local, state and national speakers, including Nevada’s Rural Legislators and the Honorable Governor Jim Gibbons, to lead the way in providing answers and resources for your rural communities and businesses.   All farm, ranch, business, and community leaders are invited to join us on August 28-30, 2007, at the Fallon Convention Center.  

 

The Summit kicked off with a tour of Fallon’s Farmer’s Market, followed by a Welcome Reception with Congressman Dean Heller.

The event continues today and tomorrow, with a wide variety of presentations on issues important to Nevada’s Rurals.  Governor Jim Gibbons and Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki are both scheduled to speak.

TECHNOLOGY: Touch and Go Casinos aim to put planning at patrons’ fingertips with wireless table-top computers

Imagine being able to virtually visit Harrah?s Entertainment properties from the concierge’s desk at Bally’s.

Or e-mail photos of a trip to Caesars Palace, wirelessly retrieving photos from a cell phone.

Or purchase a ticket for George Wallace at the Flamingo while bowling at Lucky Strike Lanes at the Rio.

Or take a virtual tour of the Pure nightclub at Caesars Palace.

All with the slightest touch of a finger on a tabletop.

A partnership between gaming giant Harrah’s Entertainment and technology giant Microsoft Corp. will make that possibility a reality in the not-too-distant future.

Harrah’s is working to adapt the Microsoft Surface, a wireless table-top computer designed with a touch-screen surface, into a virtual concierge.

Surface computers range in price from $5,000 to $10,000 each. They can be used by multiple people at once and can be adapted to recognize objects, such as Total Rewards customer loyalty cards, that are dropped anywhere on their table tops. “Surface puts people in control,” is Microsoft’s slogan. Moms start "green" cleaning service

Creating a healthy and clean atmosphere for guests is important for workout studio Pilates Coach in Reno, said office manager Lynette Clark.

But getting the right cleaning service to help make that goal possible has been challenging because many of the companies lack consistency in their service, she said.

So, after trying out several companies that she describes as “flaky,” Green Clean, a Sparks company owned by two mothers, came to the rescue.

RGJ.com“It’s hard to find competent people in the industry,” Clark, 49, said. “These two moms are environmentally concerned. So it’s a good fit. We discovered that the other companies would always do a good job just to get their foot in the door.” Read full story:
