Samuel G. Ingalls, A.A.E., Assistant Director of Aviation, Information Systems at McCarran International Airport

Samuel Ingalls has been with the administration at McCarran International Airport for the past 21 years, having worked to usher in many innovative systems throughout McCarran Airport.

In recognition of the success of one major McCarran project, Samuel was named a 1998 Computerworld Smithsonian Laureate for technological innovation in the transportation industry.

Samuel plays a leadership role in the industry, with work on behalf of Airports Council International (ACI), the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Air Transport Association (ATA). In that regard, he is the chair of the Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS) initiative.

He writes frequently and speaks around the world on aviation information systems.

Samuel is also a frequent user of the aviation system on a personal basis, holding a commercial multi-engine pilot’s rating.

Master of Ceremonies: Kendall Tenney, KVBC Anchor

It’s easy to understand why kids’ issues are Kendall’s passion as he and his wife, Alyse, have five children.

Kendall joined Channel 3 in 1994 as a morning anchor and began anchoring the four and six pm newscasts five years later. Around that same time, Kendall started his series of reports called Kids First focusing on any and all things affecting children.

Kendall has been recognized for his work both on-air and in the community. Recently he was named of the “Vegas Dozen” and last year he won two Emmys. He also won two national awards from the National Education Writers’ Association.

Kendall currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada. He also hosts his annual Run-for-a-Wish on the day before the Super Bowl which this year, raised nearly $350,000.Please bring an unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots.

New Reno Arch light bulbs just the start of energy saving plan

The Reno Arch became a symbol of the city’s $20 million commitment to energy conservationMayor Bob Cashell gets ready to put in one of the last light-emitting diode bulbs on the Reno Arch on Tuesday in downtown Reno. The bulb conversion is expected to save the city more than $11,000 a year in power bills. Tuesday night when the switch was flipped on 2,076 energy-efficient light bulbs.

“This is super. This is super,” Mayor Bob Cashell, who changed the last bulb, told about 200 people at a ceremony to spark the new light-emitting diodes. “I think these things are brighter.”

Updating the Reno Arch was intended to publicize a city program to spend up to $20 million on renewable energy and energy conservation projects in the next two years.

rgj.comThe city has hired APS Energy Services of Tempe, Ariz., for the work, using about $1 million a year to be saved in energy costs during the 15 years in the contract. That’s based on reducing the city’s $5 million annual power bill by 20 percent. Read full story:

Two more CityCenter structures earn high green ratings

Two more facilities at CityCenter have achieved LEED Gold Certification, MGM Mirage announced today.Image

Mandarin Oriental and Veer Towers have both reached the high environmental standard, bringing the total of LEED Gold certified facilities to six. Others include Crystals retail district, Vdara, ARIA’s hotel tower and separately, its convention center and theater.

The gold rating is the second highest rating available from the council, given to buildings that score between 60 and 79 points on a 100-point scale that evaluates a building’s site, the materials and resources used to build it and design innovation, among other things.

“From its inception to design, development and construction, we had one single goal in mind for CityCenter: Create a destination that is not only built in an environmentally sustainable manner, but also operates every day with an equal commitment to conserving natural resources,” CityCenter President and CEO Bobby Baldwin said. University of Nevada Reno’s Sustainable Energy Forum is hosting an event Dec. 6 in Sustainable Energy Forumcollaboration with Focus the Nation, a Clean Energy Forum with a panel of nine experts including educators, business leaders and elected officials. The forum will cover renewable and sustainable energy options (biomass, wind, solar) and policy implementation of these technologies.
