Our Speakers

Trisha Ruby has 25-plus years of experience in product development, mechanical design, engineering research and testing from a broad spectrum of industries including medical devices, renewable energy, aerospace and biomechanics. Much of her career has been working for start-ups and small companies with under 10 employees. She has been active in the engineering community as a member of ASTM technical committees and currently serving on the board for the local section of ASME. Trisha is a native Nevadan and earned her BSME from the University of Nevada, Reno. In addition she has a master’s in engineering from UC Davis.

Megan Oehlert is a licensed Professional Engineer with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and over ten years experience designing and analyzing complex solid modeling designs.  Her emphasis is on injection molding, machined components, sheet metal and other fabrication processes.  Together with the Synergy Technology Team she has been an integral part of creating products from simple consumer products through intricate analytical devices.  Megan works closely with manufacturing and production support combining technical writing, assembly and test procedure documentation with component research and procurement all to ensure a quality designs for her clients.

Timothy Casey has spent over 25 years creating and managing intellectual property and technology-related transactions for many different types of clients. He was an in-house attorney for Apple Computer, Silicon Graphics, and MCI Communications, and worked in law firms in San Jose, California, Washington, D.C. and New York City. In 2005, Tim co-founded SilverSky Group, which provides IP and business development services to a wide range of businesses, from local start-ups to technology companies headquartered around the world.

James Wong has over 25 years of experience working with innovators in a variety of technology and business entities. Jim has worked with multi-national corporations and pre-IPO startups. He has provided guidance in legal and Intellectual Property law matters, as both in-house and outside counsel. He was in-house counsel with Syntex U.S.A. (now Roche Biosciences), Vertex, Gilead Sciences and CV Therapeutics. Working in a law firms in Palo Alto, San Diego, and San Francisco, Jim has successfully represented companies in other technology areas, such as polymers chemistry, medical diagnostics, Internet search engines, bulk scale chemical manufacturing, biotechnology, and information access and management systems. In all of these settings, Jim has worked with the company’s technology and business leaders to develop and implement intellectual property strategies that combine patent, trademark and trade secret protection – strategies that support the company’s short term and long term business objectives.
