Posted Thursday, August 26th, 2010

The University of Nevada, Reno, College of Business has scheduled a seminar to show small technology companies how they can apply for a portion of the $2.3 billion dollars available from 11 federal agencies through the Small Business Innovation Research Program and the Small Business Technology Transfer Program.image

The seminar offered through the Nevada Small Business Development Center is set for September 16.

Fritz Grupe, a professor emeritus in the college of business and manager of the Small Business Innovation Research Program at the small business development center, says more than 40 percent of the federal funds are awarded to companies with 10 or fewer employees, Nearly one-third of the awards go to first-time awardees each year, and approximately one applicant in 10 is successful.

The programs target small high-tech companies that produce their own uniquely created hardware, software or chemical processing products and procedures.

Some of the granting agencies include the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Department of Agriculture.
