Giving Businesses Their Wings
The investor Jim Connor joined Sand Hill Angels, which finances new technology companies. When an entrepreneur now tries to pitch directly to him, he tells them to go through Sand Hill.
“If you sell your company, people start coming to you for advice,” he said. “If you listen to a pitch over coffee or lunch, the entrepreneur will start calling you every week, and it becomes almost a business-therapist relationship.”
These entrepreneurs are hoping to reel in an angel, a popular nickname for a well-heeled investor who’s willing to finance startup companies. But they are also hungry for the successful entrepreneur’s time, Mr. Connor said.
“In the early stages, the ego-stroking is almost irresistible,” he said. “This is the period of seduction.” Read full story:
