Going green can cut costs
Whether it’s changing to energy-efficient light bulbs or erecting an entirely “green” building, businesses can cut costs and clean the environment as well, experts said in a roundtable discussion Thursday in Sparks.
“Get an energy audit done of your building. There are so many different ways to skin a cat,” Scott Terrell,
conservation administrator of the Truckee Donner Public Utility District, told a gathering of about 100 business leaders and others at the 2008 Northern Nevada Regional Business & Tech Show.
The event, hosted by the Northern Nevada Development Authority, Mineral County Economic Development Authority, and chambers of commerce in Carson City, Douglas and Lyon counties, also featured exhibit booths of more than 70 businesses showing their wares.
Terrell cited a recent change to solar-powered lights along the taxiways at the airport in Truckee at a fraction of the cost of regular lights — and with no more power bills, to boot.
In doing so, he said, “We’re putting less demand on other resources.” Read full story:
