ICO Global Communications Holdings, a leading satellite communications company developing an advanced next-generation hybrid media system, will be conducting alpha trials later this year. ICO has been conducting live demonstrations of its mobile video service in Las Vegas since January 2008.

The company chose Las Vegas as one of two locations to conduct market trials, and also has an essential ground-based facility in Southern Nevada. ICO is implementing a state-of-the-art technology known as ‘ground based beam forming’, which allows ICO to operate its satellite payload from its Nevada gateway. The ICO G1 satellite is the first commercial satellite to use this innovative system.

Aiding ICO with site selection, approvals and incentives was the Nevada Development Authority (NDA). Saving ICO $4.8 million dollars in the process, NDA helped the company find a prime location that not only allows for excellent trials, but also allows for an amazing positive impact on their bottom line. With a total capital equipment investment of $84 million, a 5-year local tax revenue impact of over $2.4 million and a 5-year economic impact of over $10.7 million, ICO Global Communications is a welcome addition to Las Vegas.
