Nevada home to most of US’s geothermal projects
More geothermal projects by far are under development in Nevada than any other state, an industry report shows, reflecting the lure of the state’s plentiful clean-energy resource.
The report comes as an estimated 2,000 industry leaders and others attend the Geothermal Resources Council annual meeting in Reno this week and local officials promote the area as a place for their business.
It’s no surprise the council chose Reno, Karl Gawell, executive director of the Washington, D.C.-based Geothermal Energy Association, said Tuesday during the meetings in the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino.
"Reno is becoming a geothermal hub and with the University of Nevada, Reno, is world recognized," Gawell said. "You could be talking about geothermal to people in Germany and they know Reno is a key geothermal city."
Gawell said at least 30 countries are represented along with U.S. officials in Reno, adding, "A good chunk of the crowd is not from the U.S. They want to see what the U.S. is doing."
