New center opens to help Las Vegas minority entrepreneurs

 

 

Dreams are about to come true for minority entrepreneurs throughout Las Vegas. What started out as a small business idea now has the potential to be bigger than you expected, all thanks to a little help.

Expertise Cosmetology is just one minority-owned business that has already benefited from this program. Just a few months ago, they were in a small building. They’ve now doubled in size and the owner says her life has changed forever.

From hair stylists to manicurists, the Expertise Cosmetology Institute seems to offer it all. It took minority owner Gwen Chaney a while to get here. She started off small with about 40 students. But she wanted more and knew she couldn’t get there alone.

Gwen Chaney said, “We were able to get funding for $1.7 million to construct our new facility here which is 11,000-square feet.”

Her cosmetology school can hold 150 students. Chaney got help from the new Nevada Minority Business Enterprise Center, a federally funded program that walks minority business owners through the entire process. Read full story:
