New Reno Arch light bulbs just the start of energy saving plan

“This is super. This is super,” Mayor Bob Cashell, who changed the last bulb, told about 200 people at a ceremony to spark the new light-emitting diodes. “I think these things are brighter.”

Updating the Reno Arch was intended to publicize a city program to spend up to $20 million on renewable energy and energy conservation projects in the next two years.

rgj.comThe city has hired APS Energy Services of Tempe, Ariz., for the work, using about $1 million a year to be saved in energy costs during the 15 years in the contract. That’s based on reducing the city’s $5 million annual power bill by 20 percent. Read full story:
