Planetarium official to take part in NASA cave project
Reno astronomer Dan Ruby is one of a 10-member team that will spend a month in Chile’s
Atacama desert region, developing techniques for discovering and studying caves on Mars. The expedition might give NASA scientists the information they need to one day survive on Mars. Ruby is Fleischmann Planetarium’s associate director and will serve as a mapping assistant during Phase ll of NASA’s Earth-Mars Cave Detection Program, which began Tuesday. The team will map and plant sensors in lava tube and salt caves similar to those expected on Mars. Read more:
