RTC’s hybrid blueprint read to kick into gear

Reno is scheduled to have its first environmentally-friendly hybrid buses operating by the beginning of June.

GILLIG Corp. of Hayward, Calif., is building two buses for the Washoe County Regional Transportation Commission that will run on diesel and electric power, RTC Public Transportation Director David Jickling said.

Staff will need about two weeks to inspect the vehicles; then come two weeks of training, Jickling said.

The buses will debut on RTC RIDE Route 1 between downtown Reno and Meadowood Mall, the busiest bus route on the system. Read full story:
