Sierra Pacific Power offering rebates for "green" energy
Sierra Pacific Power Co. will begin accepting applications on July 16 from its residential customers in the Lake Tahoe/northeastern California area for SolarGenerations, a program providing cash rebates to electricity
customers who install photovoltaic technology to generate electricity.
PV technology consists of photovoltaic panels, usually produced from silicon, that convert sunlight into electricity. Customers using such systems can earn rebates of $3 per watt of electricity produced and a maximum rebate of $15,000 per meter.

A limited number of applications will be accepted, and they are only online and on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications must be submitted by July 31. PV projects receiving rebates must be completed by Dec. 31. The program has been in place in Northern Nevada for several years.
