About the Speaker:
Since becoming Dean in 1993, Dean Sandgren has overseen the expansion of various programs within the College, including a revitalization of the Construction Management Program, has overseen the successful implementation of the new School of Informatics — the combination of business acumen with computer science disciplines, approved by the Regents in 2006, which focuses on four specific cognates: Business Analysis, Cybersecurity, Hospitality/Entertainment, and Health Informatics, and has spearheaded two additional initiatives of special interest to TBAN membership:
Entertainment Engineering & Design, a new undergraduate major in the College, addresses the challenges of combining cutting edge engineering with the creative presentation that characterizes so many of the theater shows, especially those produced by Cirque du Soleil.
The Mendenhall Innovation Program includes a minor in Technology Innovation and Commercialization that introduced engineering students to the elements of concept development and productization, including intellectual property concerns, market need and acceptance, and rapid prototyping, resulting in the continued improvement of the capstone senior design projects.
