Wooster grad launches stellar career

“Rocket scientist” is American slang for an exceptionally intelligent person, but Sara McAllister qualifies in the literal sense, as well. Sara McAllister, a 2000 Wooster High School graduate, works on the NASA-funded �Forced Ignition and Flame Spread Test� in the microgravity combustion laboratory at the University of California, Berekley.

The 2000 Wooster High School graduate is pursuing her doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and is the lead graduate student researcher on a NASA-funded project exploring how fires can start and spread in the gravity-free environment of vessels in outer space.

What her team discovers about the unique circumstances of accidental blazes on electronics-laden RGj.comspacecraft, with their equipment made of flammable composite materials, someday could help determine the success of long space missions. Read full story:
